Doncaster

Worth Unlimited for Doncaster focuses on developing the skills, passions and motivations of local people to mentor young people, particularly those at risk of not flourishing in society.  To do this we recruit and train mentors and use them in partner schools.

Through our mentoring programme young people, ranging in age from 5-18, experience transformation in behaviour, self-confidence and self-esteem, which results in impressive outcomes of engagement and achievement.
Most mentoring is carried out one-to-one, but we also deliver small group courses in building self-esteem, anger management and conflict resolution as well as training young people to become peer mentors.  We train young people in Years 12 & 13 to mentor younger students in their school. We work with schools to tailor courses to the needs of young people, for example supporting Year 11 students who experience exam stress.
We strongly believe in the importance of a long-term mentoring relationship and do not give up easily on any young person who needs ongoing support.

Ian Ogley, a school mentor for Worth Unlimited at Armthorpe Academy Doncaster was asked to write a report on one of my female pupils when she began mentoring in year 9 (late July ‘22) into year 10 (2023):

“When I first met this young lady, she was struggling with very low self esteem and confidence issues, it took several months to get her to engage in conversations.  After trying several ideas and practical strategies we managed to improve her resilience which enabled her to cope with her issues and face upcoming challenges. This included her passing her sergeants exam in the RAF cadets which included having to instruct male and female cadets in marching routines and giving out orders, she passed with major scores. After that, her confidence grew in time, and we released her to concentrate on GCSEs and coursework. Towards the end of July 24, I met this young person prior to her leaving school and asked what she intended to do after school: was she going to college or entering another form of education i.e. an apprenticeship etc. She replied the family were leaving the area so she could be supported in her new venture as a McClaren racing team apprentice. What an amazing achievement from that shy bashful young lady I met back in 2022.”
