Exploring the 'good life' - Rob's story
Rob (aged 13) was referred to The Oasis by his school because he was at risk of exclusion. He struggled academically, had a very short attention span and was easily distracted.
He took part in the 6-week Virtues course and appeared to enjoy exploring what it is that makes a ‘good life’. Following the course, Rob continued meeting with one of our most experienced mentors, who helped him take what he had learnt and apply it to the classroom situations he struggled with. She also encouraged him to talk to school staff about the bullying he was experiencing.
Rob was subsequently moved into a different class and is doing much better at school. He joined the Oasis Young Volunteers programme all summer and, when school restarted in September, he was very proud to accomplish a whole week without any negative incidents being recorded by teachers.
