Fashion and passion: young women and social enterprise
Jane Barrett, from our East Birmingham and North Solihull team, has been working with a group of young women (picture above), giving them opportunities to have an entrepreneurial experience. Together, they have created Listen Threads, a fashion social enterprise. They are currently seeking investment through online platform Go Fund Me.
Supported by youth workers, the young women run Listen Threads, learning business skills such as marketing, making sales, customer service and product design. They are also prepared to become job ready by gaining work experience, doing interview practice and writing CV’s. Alongside this, they receive individual mentoring that is tailor-made to each young woman. This enables them to overcome the barriers they experience. Our aim is that they flourish in all aspects of their lives.

As a brand, Listen Threads is dedicated to listening to the voices of young women and valuing the stories they tell. All of the profits will be invested back into programmes which support other young women. The Listen Threads team explain:
"We decided that, as young women, we should be the cause behind the brand, as we had valued being listened to by our youth workers over such a long period of time... I have become passionate about the voices of other young women being heard in the same way that mine has."
"I have been a part of Listen Threads before it was a project. To be a part of something that allows your ideas and views to be listened to is really important to me. As a young single parent, it is easy to be judged and not listened to. Having a youth worker has also helped a lot and I can’t wait to see the brand go far."
We're exceptionally proud of our young entrepreneurs and really excited about the launch of Listen Threads. Please would you consider investing in them, their passion for their enterprise and their commitment to support their peers?
